You Want a REAL NYC Experience? Pick a Neighborhood!
Most New Yorkers spend most of their time near where they live and work. Want to live like a New Yorker? Spend most of your time in a neighborhood!
Like most people, New Yorkers spend most of their time close to home and work. So if you want an authentic NYC experience, do most of your eating and doing near where you stay. If you can go to the same place to get coffee three days in a row and the barista recognizes you, you’ll get that feeling that makes NYC so very livable despite what can seem like chaos: a touch of connection. A smidge of familiarity. Perhaps even familiar fellow diners.
The easiest place to stay and enjoy a neighborhood is the Times Square/Theatre District. All of the transportation is close so you can easily get to almost anywhere but still return back to the same place. Be one of the people who is wearing their same steps into the sidewalks and stairs. Find a cute coffee shop or diner (NYC is undoubtedly the KING city of diners) and stop by each day for something- preferably at the same time so you’re likely to have the same staff helping you out.
Or the same breakfast cart. Or donut shop. Whatever it is, make a little touchstone place and you’ll start to feel like a tiny part of the fabric of the Big Apple and make it your own. Oh- and if you do this- make sure you tip 🙂 You’re only here for a short time so enjoy being generous and the folks who help you out are even more likley to remember you fondly.
NYC Loves ME and YOU. Make a little corner of it yours while you’re here.
