Choosing a Restaurant in NYC

The ratings services like Yelp, Apple, Google, etc. are good- but check the window!

It’s hard to know where to eat in NYC. Are reviews real or paid for? Are they old or new? All of that is up to you but one of the magical things about NYC is the wander. You wander around and pick up a bite at a place that seems good. But is a tidy dining room all it seems? Are cool pictures on the wall enough? Delicious aromas wafting towards you as you walk by? Not really.

What you want to look for is the Health Grade. It’s required to be posted prominently on the front of each establishment. I won’t bore you with the process but for the most part, you want an A rated restaurant. Nothing is a guarantee and there are always exceptions- you might still get some random illness from eating at the best restaurant in the city with an A rating. I’m sure it happens once in blue moon. But if the grade is pending, I’d walk by until I found an A. If you’re visiting someone and they eat there every week or vouch for it, go with your friend’s assessment.

But for the wild wander? Find an A.
